Weather Atlas

Notes on lines these pages already print.

The front page is London

The front page calls the site Weather Atlas and the country the United Kingdom. The place in the main heading is London. The same heading carries a hidden country code, GB, and two coordinates: latitude 51.507351 and longitude -0.127758. A line to the side reads United Kingdom: 13.512 locations, with a dot between 13 and 512.

The London page is a different address, /en/united-kingdom/london, and it uses another title. The note on Friday 28 September stays on that London page. This note stays on the front page.

Two titles, one city

The front-page title is Weather Atlas | United Kingdom weather forecast and Climate information. Climate has a capital C. United Kingdom comes before weather forecast. London is not in that title.

The visible heading under it is Weather forecast, then London, United Kingdom. The comma sits after London. GB is in the markup as addressCountry and is marked hidden. A reader of the heading sees London, United Kingdom. The code GB is a separate field.

The London address uses a longer title: London, United Kingdom - Detailed weather forecast, long range monthly outlook and climate information | Weather Atlas. There the place name comes first, and climate is lowercase. The front page does the opposite: the country is in the title, and the city is in the heading.

Breadcrumb position 2 is United Kingdom, linking to /en/united-kingdom. Position 3 is London, linking to /en/united-kingdom/london. The front page is already showing London while the crumb still offers the London address as a further step. The note on three other places uses the same long title pattern, with Edinburgh, Birmingham and Presteigne in the first position.

The coordinates

latitude is the word in the markup, then 51.507351. longitude is the word, then -0.127758. The minus sign is on the longitude. The latitude has no plus sign. Both use a point, not a comma, as the decimal mark.

The location count on the same page uses a dot as well, in 13.512. That dot is not the same kind of mark as the decimal point in 51.507351. The note on 13.512 keeps the count, and does not treat it as a coordinate.

The coordinates are attached to the London place in the heading. They are not repeated in the footer sentence that defines weather. They are not the number in square brackets at the end of the country sentence, which is 2299491. Three numbers, three jobs.

Nothing on this heading prints a street, a postcode, or a second city. The front page’s place is London, and the coordinates are the ones written next to that name.

The hidden country code on that heading is GB. The visible words are London, United Kingdom.

Tomorrow, still London

Above the heading, a block says London, then United Kingdom, then Weather forecast for tomorrow. The link text is Weather forecast for tomorrow. The title attribute is Weather forecast for tomorrow London, United Kingdom, without a comma between tomorrow and London.

The address of that link is /en/united-kingdom/london-weather-tomorrow. It is a London address. It is not a country-wide tomorrow page. The note on the month addresses lists that tomorrow path next to the twelve month paths, all of them under London.

The front page can therefore say United Kingdom in the title and still send tomorrow to a London path. The country name and the city path are both printed. They are not the same string.

Cities in the menu goes to /en/united-kingdom. Climate goes to /en/united-kingdom-climate. Neither of those menu words is London. London is the heading and the tomorrow link.

The menu words Cities and Climate are not the word London. The heading is.

Tomorrow’s visible text does not name a second city. The href is the tomorrow path.

What the footer adds

The desktop footer repeats Weather Atlas: United Kingdom weather forecast and Climate information. It then repeats the long description: current weather and hourly forecast, detailed daily and 10 day forecast, long range monthly outlook, and the list temperature, humidity, rainfall, snowfall, daylight, sunshine, UV index and sea temperature. It ends Country: United Kingdom [2299491].

10 day has no hyphen. Climate is capitalised again. The bracketed 2299491 has no label. It is not 13.512 and it is not the latitude.

A second footer sentence defines weather as the state of the atmosphere and the short-term conditions of temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind, precipitation, atmospheric particle count and other meteorological variables in a given region. That sentence does not name London. The heading above it does.

The copyright line is © 2002-2018, then Yu Media Group d.o.o., then Resources. Both of those names link to /en/resources. The author line is on that same footer. The year span is in the footer. The Friday heading on the London page does not carry a year.

English, and four other front pages

The English front page is /. The same title, Weather Atlas | United Kingdom weather forecast and Climate information, is also the title of /en. The heading there is again Weather forecast and London.

German, Spanish, Russian and Chinese each have their own front page, and each of those headings still names London, in that language. The note on the five labels quotes those titles. They are not five different cities. They are five wordings of a page that still puts London in the heading.

The search box placeholder is United Kingdom - search location. The form posts to /en/search.php. That address is not among the archived HTML pages. The placeholder names the country. The heading names London.

The front page is a United Kingdom title, a London place, a pair of coordinates, and a location count written with a dot. Those four are all on the one page, and they are not interchangeable.

The title names the country. The heading names London. The count names locations. The coordinates name a point.

The code GB stays in the hidden country field.
